Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Guitar Instruction

Reviews

I've been taking lessons with Eric for a little over a month and it has been a truly enlightening experience for me, not only as a guitar player but as a musician in general. Eric's approach to guitar instruction is both challenging as well as encouraging, and I find that each lesson is a wholly collaborative experience (as opposed to just rote instruction). There are some lessons where I may barely play a note, yet I walk away feeling like a better guitar player simply through discussing the philosophy and mechanics of music. It is rare to find an instructor who is that effective, in any field. My time with Eric has fundamentally changed the way I approach the guitar and has opened countless new paths to explore. I strongly recommend him as a teacher for any genre of music at any skill level.

I love my hour per week with Eric! His knowledge of the instrument is astounding. My understanding of the guitar neck and my actual playing has improved drastically in the past few months! I highly recommend Eric as your next teacher!

Taking lessons with Eric has been a great experience. He's improved my playing, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and parking is a piece of cake. I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of theory, how to play over chord changes, and how to better visualize the fretboard. I could not have found a better instructor to teach me this stuff. He is patient with questions and gives thorough answers that are easy to understand and apply. He really knows music. On top of all that he is a fantastic player. I highly recommend Klotz Guitar Studio to anyone of any skill level looking to improve their playing.

I’ve been studying with Eric on and off for 3 years and can say I’m quite pleased with what he brings to the table and a teacher. Patient and knowledgeable, he has a knack for breaking down complex concepts into understandable terms. He’s great at examining your individual abilities and tailoring lessons to help you advance as quickly as possible. He knows his stuff and can always backup and demonstrate what he preaches. I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher.

I've played guitar for about 10 years now, but had very little knowledge of music theory. Since starting lessons at Klotz Studio, my technique and understanding of theory have dramatically improved in a very short time. Eric is a very patient teacher, and will make sure you're understanding the concepts being laid out. I can't say enough good things about his teaching style, and attention to students learning needs. 5 stars all the way!

Eric is a dynamite guitar teacher. After prior teachers took me down technical wormholes that were often not relevant to my goals, Eric quickly honed in on what I wanted out of these lessons to become a better player. I am super happy with the obvious progress I have made in such a short time. Eric's best trait is pointing out my weaknesses so that they can quickly be fixed or improved. He pays attention more than most teachers in terms of development and moving ahead. Whether it is learning a new riff, a new tune, drills, or discussing theory, Eric does not let the student get overly bogged down, and he is able to simplify the path for the student. I highly recommend Eric for any level of guitarist.

Just finished my second lesson with Eric and I've learned more in those two hours than I have in 15 years of teaching myself. Took 3 lessons in high school, and learned an E-harmonic minor scale; took 4 lessons last year, I had no idea how to write songs, and I was told I had to write a bunch of songs first.
After two hours with Eric, I understand how to find all the notes on my bottom string, minor 2nds, major 3rds, finding what key I'm in, the cycle of 4ths, tension and resolution, the major scale, intervals, picking technique experimentation, barre chord technique, etc. I'm far from expert level or even proficiency on these things, but Eric's teaching style is really unlocking a new world for me (its only been 2 lessons!). I've never been more excited or motivated to play: I can't wait to go back to my bank of riffs that never went anywhere, find the notes, understand where I can go next musically and FINALLY finish writing a song!
Eric is so relaxed, friendly and patient and has a wealth of knowledge and performing experience. Excited to see how far I can progress under his tutelage. Excellent teacher, I would recommend highly to anyone.

Eric is a fantastic teacher. Eric has been extremely helpful in helping me too see the fretboard in a more cohesive manner. Aside from his plethora of guitar-oriented knowledge, Eric has a phenomenal understanding of music theory and it's application in all sorts of situations. I have made gigantic strides in my ability to improvise, affording me a much wider variety of language and concepts to draw from while improvising. Eric has also helped me increase my chord vocabulary so profoundly that I feel comfortable camping and playing rhythm guitar in all sorts of situations. I have been studying with Eric for the better part of two years now, and I highly suggest his expertise if you strive to improve your understanding of theory, or would just like to add more language to your playing. It doesn't matter what style you play in, Eric is ready and able to lend a helping hand.

I've been taking lessons from Eric for a long time and have learned a ton. He taught me to see the fretboard in a more comprehensive way and I sound like a much better guitarist as a result. Totally pleasant to work with and it's time and money well spent.

I’ve been playing for a very long time. I know I will never be a shredder. In fact, I have no musical ability at all. That said, I’ve been very frustrated with teachers the past 10 years. Nearly every teacher has asked me, “what do you want to learn?” “Isn’t it your job to tell me what and how I should be practicing to become that player I’d like to be?” I’d reply… and get silence. Eric has changed my playing. 8 lessons and doors have opened. I’m excited to play again. He listens to me play, and makes suggestions for improvement. Finally!! A teacher that can diagnose and correct a deficiency, similar to a golf instructor. Also, Eric has a great attitude. He also has an understanding of music that few have as well. I feel lucky to have found him.

Eric has done a great job teaching me guitar theory and using exercises to improve my technique. I am continually amazed that at his ability to listen and observe my playing and zero in on the areas i need to work on.
